Tuesday, September 17, 2024 – Jacquilyn Berry, Color Theory, www.jacquilynberrypaintings.com

Raised in Germany, Jacquilyn had a childhood surrounded by the artistic masters of Europe. Whether it was visiting The Louvre, The Sistine Chapel, or too many cathedrals and palaces to count, art was a dominant presence in her life. She began painting in high school copying the Impressionistic Greats. Accepted into the VCU School of Arts with honors she switched her major to Art History and finished with a Masters’ Degree in 19th Century French Impressionism. Throughout her adult life she continued to paint landscapes evolving her own artist's hand and unique representation of the natural world around her. As brush and imagination slowly merged over time her artwork seeks to delve into the subconscious of the viewer. Her landscapes and abstracts provide a gateway for the viewer to delve and freely roam into their own subconscious feelings, memories, dreams and aspirations. When asked about her goals as an artist she is quick to reference her favorite quote by Don Miguel de Cervantes Saavedra, “too much sanity may be madness, and maddest of all, is to see life as it is and not as it should be.” Jacquilyn captures and manifests the ephemeral wisps of hope, dreams, wishes, and light that reside in all of us. We should all see the world as it should be.

Jacquilyn focuses mainly on distant landscapes and wants those viewing her landscapes to feel a sense of peaceful calm and serenity. She feels in today's world we all need that more than ever. “My landscapes are gateways for the viewer to have a truly unique and personal journey through them. I put in enough detail for the viewer to understand the composition and leave out enough detail so that the viewer's subconscious can plant its own details into the landscape. In this way, the canvas becomes a portal for the viewer's imagination to saunter through fond childhood memories, favorite pieces of literature, find a place of solitude for inward self-reflection, and have a moment of reprieve from the outside world.”

Tuesday, October 15, 2024 – Dallas Roquemore, Program Manager of ART 180

He will discuss this non-profit organization www.art180.org and how the Tuckahoe Artists Association may support their work in the community.

Sally Guynn, PhD to Write An Artist Statement, www.sallyguynnartandbooks.com

"Besides my children and grandchildren, nothing in my life has fulfilled me as much as painting and writing-- it's given new meaning to the term 'soul food."

Sally is an active author and artist, her two greatest life passions besides her dog, Kismet. But it’s being a storyteller at heart that drives these ambitions, spanning the gamut of subject matter, interest and style. She has had three books published and three more await publication. One book in the cue, titled “Finding Sally – A Memoir, One Painting at a Time” presents a collection of images of her artwork, each accompanied with an Art Statement.

She typically describes herself as a late blooming, self-made artist with an unquenchable thirst for learning and experimentation. She favors watercolor or alcohol inks and enjoys experimenting with impressionistic portrayals. But it’s her lifelong love of nature and wildlife that woos her most when choosing subject matter.

She has been fortunate to have attended excellent watercolor workshops with Zheng Feng, Mort Solberg, and Fred Graff as well as classes with Bev Purdue and Marty Franks. Sharing with other artists what she has learned enriches her journey as an artist.

She stepped down from three years as president of the Bon Air Artists Association last January. Other factoids: Member of The Virginia Watercolor Society, a Richmond native, a feisty grandmother, holding degrees from Westhampton College, UVA for a Masters, and Colorado State Univ for a doctorate in organizational development.

Tuesday, January 21, 2025 – Robin Caspari, The Elements of Design Through the Lens of Dominance and Variety, www.robincaspari.com

“Something strong in the center of myself drives me to paint no matter what the circumstance in my life. I am true to this inner voice. My goals and aspirations are the same as they were years ago; I strive to simply create beautiful paintings in an unrestrained, expressive style. I begin a piece by looking at or thinking about my subject, and recognizing what inspires me about it. I try to keep that in mind throughout the process, while letting my instinct rule how the painting is expressed. My paintbrush is an extension of my soul. My medium of choice is oil paint. I keep my palette simple and like the freedom and absolute honesty that painting gives me. A painting speaks a language absent of words, that people can understand in an instant. As a painter, I strive to give the gift of expression and beauty. I love to enrich people's lives with my work. Overall, the process of making a great painting is very symbolic of life itself, packed full of thought and emotion, yet stunningly simple.”

Robin Caspari is an oil painter and teacher. She has won awards such as Second Place overall in 2022 Plein Air Salon Annual Competition, and multiple First place awards for Plein Air Salon's monthly divisions. She has been included in National Shows hosted by the National Impressionist Society and National Oil and Acrylic Painters among others.

She has raised funds through her art sales for charities like The Cloud Foundation, The Children’s Hospital, The Humane Society and The Corolla Wild Horse Fund. Her Paintings hang in private collections including Bayer Aspirin National Headquarters and Sweet Briar Colleges’ Presidential Suite. Some of her paintings hang in collections that include historical artists such as Picasso and Degas. Robin has worked under the tutelage of many masters including Carolyn Anderson, Scott Christensen, Derek Penix, Robert Johnson and Kevin Macpherson to develop a unique and informed style of painting that continues to evolve. Robin is an active member of the National Impressionist Society and American Women Artists.

Tuesday, February 18, 2025 – Debra Keirce, Demo, www.debkart.com

Originally from Detroit, Debra Keirce is an accomplished fine artist. In her Northern Virginia studios, she paints in oils and draws in charcoal, up to four feet tall, with a specialty in true miniature pieces as small as your palm.

Debra has earned several honors in acclaimed art circles. She is proud to be a US coast guard artist, and winner of the 2022 George Gray award. She is the recipient of a rare artist residency at sea with crew on the U.S. National Security Cutter Stone. Also, eleven of her paintings were commissioned and are hanging prominently in the newly remodeled Boston Langham 5-star hotel. Debra is an Art Renewal Center Living Master, and holds signature memberships in the National Oil and Acrylic Painters' Society, American Women Artists, Southwest Artists, and Miniature Artists of America.

She is also a juried member of several societies, including Copley Society of Art (as well as their juried portrait registry), Salmagundi Club, International Guild of Realism, Women Artists of the West, and American Artists Professional League.

Debra had a career as a biochemical design engineer in the 1980’s and 1990’s. Her project management and problem-solving skills serve her well in her art career. She has studied painting and drawing with many instructors and programs over the years, but is currently working through the Ani Art Academies curriculum that was created by trompe l’oeil painter Anthony Waichulis. In 2010 she turned her passion for the visual arts into a full-time career.
