Tuckahoe Artists Association

The Tuckahoe Artists Association was founded and held its first meeting on Tuesday April 20, 1971. Originally, membership was drawn from the Tuckahoe Woman’s Club located in the west end of Richmond, Virginia. Currently the organization has about 55 members including active, associate and honorary members. Membership is drawn from diverse sources in the metropolitan area and consists of established professional artists as well as aspiring new ones.

The purpose of the organization is to stimulate interest in the fine arts. In order to achieve its purposes, the association has regular meetings on the third Tuesday of September, October, January and February at Tuckahoe Presbyterian Church, 7000 Park Avenue at 9:30 A.M. Guest artists make presentations regarding their work and special techniques or give demonstrations, lessons or critiques of member works. A spring trip to art museums of interest is sponsored as well. An annual luncheon/business meeting is held in May to elect officers for the coming year.

Approximately six to eight exhibits of members’ works are scheduled annually at various venues in the Richmond area. In April, the Annual Judged Exhibit is held at the Crossroads Art Center, 2016 Staples Mill Road, works are judged and awarded ribbons by local Richmond professional artists.

MEMBERSHIP INFORMATION

Meetings: 3rd Tuesday in September, October, January, February, May (annual meeting). Coffee 9:30, business 10 AM, program 10:30 AM. Field trip in April, date dependent on destination.

Membership is limited is limited to 60 active members. A waiting list will be maintained by the Membership chair after quota is filled.

The application for membership will be completed by the applicant, signed by the primary and secondary sponsors and given to the membership chair along with the letter of endorsement and signed Disclaimer.

A committee of five members of the Executive Board, assembled by the membership chair, will review the application and at least three paintings (completed within the past two years) by each prospective member. Completed application form for prospective members will be presented to the Board for approval. Upon approval of the Board, membership will become effective upon payment of dues.

Requirements of Membership
Pay dues. Dues are payable June 1, currently $45 (May 2014). Members admitted after January 1 shall pay half dues for the balance of the year.
Attend meetings. A member absent more than twice will be dropped from membership.
Exceptions will be allowed for illness or travel when reported to the membership chair.
Participate in two Association Exhibits per year.
Participate actively on committees and at various functions and exhibits.

Sponsors
A member must have been an active member for one year prior to sponsoring a prospective member. Each member may sponsor no more than two prospective members per year.

Associate Members
The number of associate members shall not exceed 10. Associate members will not be required to exhibit and may not hold office.

Any member of good standing for 10 years who is no longer painting or able to be active may become an associate member by request to the president upon payment of dues. Dues will be regularly established dues plus $10.

Leave of Absence
A leave of absence, not to exceed two years, may be granted to a member by the Executive Board upon request, provided annual dues are paid during the term of the leave.

Termination of Membership
A member may resign by submitting his/her resignation in writing to the president.
